Christ’s College Secondary School was nominated for the Stirling Prize 2010. Christ’s College was designed as part of an overall campus with Pond Meadow Special Needs school, in Guildford and sets the standard for exemplary sustainable school design in the UK. This clever design for a secondary school is a worthy companion to the adjoining special-needs school by the same architects, which won an RIBA Award in 2009. But whereas that was single storey as befits the needs of young people with many and real learning and physical difficulties, this one achieves a great deal on three compact levels, yet has a gratifying generosity of circulation and inner courtyard spaces.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) announced today the winners of the 2009 President’s Medals Student Awards.
The Royal Institute of British Architects has been awarding the President’s Medals since the 1850s and the awards were established in their current format in 1984.
The aim of these prestigious awards is to promote excellence in the study of architecture, to reward talent and to encourage architectural debate worldwide. Widely regarded as the best architectural education awards in the world, students aspire each year to be selected by their school to enter for the medals and for the opportunity for their work to be recognised and publicly exhibited.
During this week we’ll be publishing the winners.
