New York firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro have unveiled their design for a new Los Angeles museum for The Broad Art Foundation. Rem Koolhaas, Herzog & de Meuron, Christian de Portzamparc, Ryue Nishizawa and Kazuyo Sejima, Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Foreign Office Architects competed last year for a 120,000 sq ft and $130 million dollars project for a new museum and in August Diller Scofidio + Renfro won the competition. Fernando Romero / LAR, through his twitter account (@fromero7), has released a new video from the Museo Soumaya wich is being built in Mexico City.
Designs for the Zayed National Museum have been officially unveiled today by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Conceived as a monument and memorial to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding president of the UAE, the Museum will be the centrepiece of the Saadiyat Island Cultural District and will showcase the history, culture and more recently the social and economic transformation of the Emirates. MAXXI, the National Museum of XXI Century Arts in Rome by Zaha Hadid Architects has won the coveted £20,000 RIBA Stirling Prize 2010, in association with The Architects Journal and Benchmark. The presentation of the UK’s premier architectural award took place at a special awards ceremony this evening (Saturday 2 October) at The Roundhouse in London, and was televised live on BBC Two’s The Culture Show at 6.30pm. Sauerbruch Hutton, an Anglo-German practice, has been announced as the winner of the M9 International Architecture Design Competition which will open a new cultural pole in Venice, Italy in 2014. Six firms participated in the competition: Agence Pierre-Louis Faloci(France), Carmassi Studio di Architettura (Italy), David Chipperfield Architects (Great Britain/Italy), Mansilla+Tuñón Arquitectos (Spain), Sauerbruch Hutton (Germany) and Souto Moura Arquitectos (Portugal). Thom Mayne has revealed his design for the Perot Museum of Nature and Science at Victory Park, Dallas. Mayne describes the project as a “living educational tool featuring architecture inspired by nature and science”. The new facility will provide 180,000 sq ft of display and archive space on a 4.7 acre site in the north of downtown Dallas. More images and description after the break.
