The Serpentine Gallery is delighted to reveal the plans for the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2011 by world-renowned Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. This year’s Pavilion is the 11th commission in the Gallery’s annual series, the world’s first and most ambitious architectural programme of its kind. Organized by AWR, LOFT is an international architecture competition, the population growth and the urban centralization lead to an increase of the demand in the real estate market and in the food. One possible solution is the vertical farming. For these reasons, AWR proposes the design of a new skyscraper on the Thames waterfront. The new tower will be inserted into the new city skyline. 2010 Carbuncle Cup winner. BFLS’s 43-storey Strata tower
It was hailed a breakthrough in urban wind power: a 42-storey tower with built-in turbines to deliver 8% of its electricity needs. But today the Strata tower in south London found itself becalmed when it was named Britain’s ugliest new building, pipping a rival that the judges said resembled a giant pair of buttocks and a bus station that looked like a jelly mould.

Since 2000 the Serpertine Gallery has commissioned world’s most renowned architects to design a temporary pavilion during the summer time, one of the requirements to be selected as the architect of the Pavilion is not building anything ever before in London. The list includes architects such as Zaha Hadid, Frank Ghery, Rem Koolhaas, Toyo Ito, Daniel Libeskind, Oscar Niemeyer, Alvaro Siza and last years SANAA.
The Serpentine Gallery has announced that Jean Nouvel has been selected to design this years Serpentine Gallery Pavilion. More images and info after the break.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Louis B. Susman, and Acting Director of the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations, Adam Namm, announced today that KieranTimberlake of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has won the design competition for the New London Embassy.
KieranTimberlake’s design met the goal of creating a modern, welcoming, timeless, safe and energy efficient embassy for the 21st century. Their concept most fully satisfied the requirements outlined in the design competition’s mission statement. The concept holds the greatest potential for developing a truly iconic embassy and is on the leading edge of sustainable design.
