DRDS’ Winning Entry for KNN Media Center Competition

In fall 2009, the entry by Californian firm DRDS Architecture won the first prize in the architectural design competition for the new KNN Media Center in Busan, Korea. The project, located in the new Centum City district, includes new broadcast facilities for KNN, office condominiums, retail spaces, and a museum. The winning proposal was a collaboration of DRDS with local design firm Ilshin Architects. More info and images after the break.

Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center - HOK

MISHAWAKA, INDIANA – The new 254-bed Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, located on the 90-acre Edison Lakes Medical Campus in Mishawaka, Indiana, has opened. The new 663,000 square-foot hospital and 155,000-square-foot medical office building serves the Northern Indiana region.

HOK provided the architectural design, planning, structural engineering and interior design services for the new $224 million replacement facility, which is a member of Trinity Health. More info and images after the break.

EDUARDO RICO BIO
Eduardo Rico is a Civil Engineer and Ma Landscape Urbanism Graduate currently working in Arup. He is also director of Groundlab and co-funder of Relational Urbanism.  He is currently engaged in strategic advice on infrastructure and transportation for urban master planning in the ILG team in Arup, combining it with teaching in the AA Landscape Urbanism and research in the contemporary design practices feeding infrastructural inputs into architectural urbanism.

ENRIQUETA LLABRES BIO
Enriqueta Llabres is an architect graduated at the UPC in 2002.  In 2003 she became part of MAP Architects team whose principal is Prof. Josep Lluis Mateo. During this period she was a team member of important winning competitions for the practice, ending up the architect responsible for the Netherland projects. In 2007 she leaves the office and moves to London co-founding together with Eduardo Rico Relational Urbanism. Currently she combines her research in Relational Urbanism with her own architectural practice, DNA-Collective.

Burj Dubai, the tallest building in the world was inaugurated this Monday by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with a height of 828 meters the Burj Dubai oficially becomes the tallest building in the world, having surpassed the Taipei 101 building in Taiwan. The inauguration of the tower coincided with the accesion to power of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Mohammad Ali Al Abbar, Chairman of Emaar real estate company said the company decided to launch the tower on this date as a gesture of gratitude towards Shaikh Mohammad, who is considered the builder of modern Dubai.

Burj Dubai inauguration

The Burj Dubai houses residences and commercial spaces, apart from Giorgio Armani’s The Armani Hotel & Residences. It also anchors Downtown Burj Dubai, a Dh73 billion mixed-use mega project, already a bustling community described as the new “heart of the city”.
