Lightmos Thonglor - Architectkidd

Walking around the streets of Bangkok, it is possible to find inspiration in the way building owners modify their shop houses. These buildings usually begin as concrete constructions, but owners would later add layers over existing surfaces in order to block out heat and sun.  Low cost and lightweight metal materials are cut into panels or pieces to create a pattern over the existing shop house. Centre-3

Founded in 1999, The AR Awards for Emerging Architecture have now grown in to the most popular and prestigious awards programme for young architects in the world, giving emerging practices an invaluable impetus on their trajectory to wider stardom and a chance to put their work on a global stage. The awards are run in association with the esteemed Architectural Review.

Awards are given for excellence across a very broad spectrum of design. Buildings, landscape, urbanism, product design and furniture are all eligible. All projects must be built and the cut-off limit for age is 45. Entries were judged by a distinguished international jury chaired by Kieran Long, AR Editor-in-Chief.  The judging panel are: Elizabeth Diller (Diller Scofidio + Renfro, New York), Yvonne Farrell (Grafton Architects, Dublin), Tony Fretton (Tony Fretton Architects, London), and Thomas Heatherwick (Heatherwick Studio, London).

Winners and highly commended entries will be published in the December 2009 issue of The Architectural Review and on the awards and magazine websites www.architecturalreviewawards.com and www.arplus.com, and will also receive a share of the £6,000 prize money.  The AR Awards ceremony will be held in London at the Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA).  All winners will be invited to the event.
