2009 Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism \ Architecture

Submission deadline: 5:00 pm, 9 September 2009
To provide a better understanding to prospective exhibitors on the captioned events and criteria of submission, you are cordially invited to a briefing session scheduled for 26 August 2009 (Wed) at 7:00pm at the HKIA premises.

In the interim, please email your questions to info@hkszbiennale.org or tara@hkia.net . The Steering Committee members and Curatorial Team will address your concerns and general enquiries at the briefing session.

Dear prospective exhibitors,
The 2009 Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism \ Architecture is organized by The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) in association with The Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP), The Hong Kong Designers Association (HKDA), and the Shenzhen Planning Bureau, with support from the Home Affairs Bureau of The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The Biennale will be held from 4 December 2009 through February 2010, with concurrent exhibitions in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The Hong Kong Exhibition will take place at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade.

The Curatorial team is now pleased to announce three open calls for the submission of proposals to the Hong Kong portion of the 2009 Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism \ Architecture that respond to the theme of City Mobilization: BYOB (Bring Your Own Biennale).

OPEN CALL 1: Bring Your Own Bench
An open call for submissions focused on the design of contemporary alternatives to the typical civic furniture of Hong Kong’s public spaces. [See Appendix 1]

OPEN CALL 2: Bring Your Own Booth (**Professionals only)
An open call for submissions focused on designing a contemporary interpretation of the outdoor hawker stalls commonly found in older street markets across Hong Kong. [See Appendix 2]

(**Professionals must hold full membership/ fellowship of HKIA, HKIP, HKDA, or other equivalent accredited professional organizations.)

OPEN CALL 3: Bring Your Own Box (Urban Visions)
An open call for the submission of “Urban Visions” for a future Hong Kong-Shenzhen metropolis. [See Appendix 3]

Attached please find the curatorial statement for the 2009 Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\ Architecture and detailed requirements for submission as stated in [Appendix 1], [Appendix 2] and [Appendix 3] accordingly.
